About Southern Winds Farm
Southern Winds Farm is family-owned and operated in Rutledge, GA.  Wanting a better environment for our children and a desire to have more control over how our food is produced, we established our farm in 2011.  Since then, we have slowly grown our small-scale operation, paying close attention to our expanding herd, doing all we can to ensure a caring, stress-free environment.  We believe that happy pigs are tasty pigs!
The Coleman Family
Casey, Donna, Claire Marie and Jackson... Our love of the land and the animals we raise are what makes up Southern Winds Farm.
Idaho Pastured Pigs, or IPP's for short, are a relatively new breed of pig.  Designed with the small farmer, homesteader, and hobby farmer in mind, the breed was developed by Gary and Shelly Farris in 2007.  The Farris family selected breeds known for succulent, red marbled meat (Old Berkshire & Duroc) and combined them with the extremely gentle, grass loving Kune-Kune.  The result... a pasture based pig that is easy on your fields, eating primarily grass for an exceptionally delicious, well marbled pork.

IPPs mature to market weight within about 9 to 12 months and eat less grain than the average meat hog does. Butcher weight is about 200-250 pounds, being smaller in size at maturity when compared to average meat hogs.
